Teddy Bears

Have you ever wondered about the origins of the beloved teddy bear? In this blog post, we will take a journey through time to explore the fascinating history of this iconic toy and introduce you to a new friend.

What is the origin of the teddy bear?

The teddy bear has a rather interesting origin story. It all began in the early 20th century when President Theodore Roosevelt went on a hunting trip in Mississippi. During the expedition, Roosevelt refused to shoot a defenseless bear that had been captured and tied to a tree. This act of compassion caught the attention of a political cartoonist, who depicted the President sparing the bear. The cartoon quickly gained popularity, and the incident became known as the "Teddy Bear" incident.

How did the teddy bear become a toy?

Morris Michtom and his wife Rose as well as Richard Steiff are credited with creating the teddy bear as we think of it today. The toy was an instant success and quickly gained popularity around the world.

Why is the teddy bear still beloved today?

Teddy bears have timeless appeal. They’re just darn cute! They transcend generations by bringing comfort and companionship, especially to children. The soft and cuddly nature of teddy bears makes them perfect for hugging and snuggling and provides a source of solace during difficult times.

Teddy bears also have become a symbol of nostalgia, reminding us of cherished childhood memories. Many people have fond recollections of their first teddy bear and the special bond they formed with it.

The Giving Bear comes with a special message attached to its paw, which reads, "Sometimes you can feel so small in a great big world. Sometimes you might feel like a giant who can climb any beanstalk! However you are feeling, I want you to know how important YOU are. Whenever you need... a little comfort, a little safe, a little brave, just whisper in my ear and hold me tight. I'll be here for you."

When someone receives The Giving Bear, they can hold it close, whisper their worries or fears, and find comfort in its presence. It serves as a reminder that they are not alone and that there is always someone who cares.
